You are invited to the NRICH Dance Forum
Your opportunity to get involved and contribute in 2023
The NRICH Dance Forum will be a creative discussion building on the legacy of NRICH 2022 and we will be hoping for lots of contribution from the attendees, including local dance groups, vocational and professional dancers.
Please reserve your place via eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nrich-dance-discussion-forum-tickets-502678463817
The main discussion points for the forum will be the following:
1) Extended Play workshops - these will be in improvisational dance and will be delivered by choreographer Jamaal Burkmar. A creative piece called How to Build A Universe grew out of the lockdown as a means to heal, build relationships and use music and movement to breakdown barriers.
These workshops will take place in community settings in the summer (late June/early July) as part of the pilot Arts and Ideas Festival (Richmond)
One workshop will be offered as professional development to our emergent professional dancers in and around the borough as a means to sustain their careers and build professional relationships with Jamaal and other visiting dancers from his company. This workshops may or may not be public, but they will conclude with a public performance.
Another workshop will be offered to diverse community dance groups in the borough including vocational dancers, adult dancers including those with disabilities, and older dancers. This will be a legacy of NRICH Dance 2022 whereby the workshops were open, inclusive and welcoming to all groups. This event will also conclude with a public performance.
2) A Dance Flashmob - this will be an open, inclusive and welcoming community dance event in the heart of Twickenham’s busy shopping district and will be a prominent part of Richmond’s inaugural Arts and Ideas Festival in June/July2023. The project will involve participants from a number of local community dance groups and professional dancers. The choreography will highlight the festival’s themes - Inclusivity, Togetherness and Kindness.
3) One of the discussion topics at the last forum was ‘How to get more boys interested in dance?’ The legacy of this discussion is the workshops we have planned with Jamaal and how we can attract boys to participate.
